Collaborative Research

My primary research focuses on developing and sustaining long-term, collaborative partnerships with community, government, and nonprofit organizations that elevate lived experience and recognize expertise, particularly that outside of academia. The ethos of my work is to support equitable, effective policymaking that reduces inequity, promotes well-being, and improves outcomes for everyone affected by the U.S. correctional system.

Programs

Community Collaboration Science (with Lauren Woods)

  • Expanding Networks for Research Collaboration to Bolster Public Safety (Broadly-Defined): After the Fostering Public Safety workshop in October 2024, funded by Arnold Ventures, which was designed to bring together academics and practitioners/those doing the work on-the-ground to meaningfully improve community safety and well-being, several resources have been or are currently in development to help further momentum for increasing opportunities for research collaboration to improve public/community safety and well-being:

  1. The How-To Guide: For those who may have interest in planning and running events such as collaborative research workshops like FPS 2024, the How-To Guide is designed to share what we learned in the process of planning in an attempt to help make the process easier for others.
  2. Funders Spreadsheet: If you are interested in having read access to a list of funders that support well-being and justice-focused research, you can send me an email via Outlook by clicking the "Funders Spreadsheet" link above (or email me directly at jessie.harney@colostate.edu).
